General Breed Characteristics

As can easily be gathered from its name, the Arabian horse originated on the Arabian peninsula. A purebred Arabian has been bred from unmixed, pure bloodlines original to the Bedouin desert tribes on that Arabian peninsula, where the breed matured virtually untouched by outside influences, as any crossing with foreign blood was strictly forbidden by tribal law. It is regarded as the purest breed in existence.

The breed is known for its intelligence, versatility, and very affectionate nature.

No other horse breed is bred as internationally. For quite some time already the horses in the original Arab habitat have been outnumbered by ‘foreigners’ all over the world.
In order to establish the selfsame criteria of registration in all countries, a worldwide organisation was founded: the World Arabian Horse Organisation (WAHO). At this moment 58 national Registries accepting WAHO-rules are affiliated.
